The Valley Center varsity boys volleyball team got the 2014 season off to a great start with a 3–0 win over El Camino on March 11, but couldn’t keep the momentum going into the next two matches and suffered a pair of losses.

The Jaguars played at Santa Fe Christian last Tuesday and battled throughout a very close match before falling 3–1, with game scores of 19–25, 25–20, 22–25, 22–25.

Daniel DeLeon led the Jags with 18 kills, while Alex Rios had seven kills and one ace, Paul Schaner had six kills and 11 digs, Andrew Nebecker had four kills, five blocks and one ace, and Benjie Schechter 36 assists.

Valley Center hit the road again on Thursday to play at San Marcos, but the Jaguars couldn’t keep pace with the Knights and lost, 3–0, with game scores of 14–25, 23–25, 16–25.

DeLeon once again led the way with nine kills, eight digs and one ace, while Schaner had five kills and five digs and Schechter had 18 assists.

The Jaguars hosted Escondido Charter on Tuesday and they have a little time off before they return to action next Wednesday at home against Orange Glen at 4:30 p.m.
