Escondido Charter High School junior Taylor Pamplin took first place in the girls 11-dive competition during the April Invitational diving meet April 12 at Fallbrook High School’s pool.

Pamplin accumulated 472.20 points to lead the 24 girls who participated in the 11-dive event. The second-place score, achieved by Jackie Real of La Jolla High School, was 400.10 points.

“She kind of crushed the whole competition,” said meet organizer Sean Redmond.

“She dove extremely well,” said Escondido Charter diving coach John Philips. “You can tell the hard work is paying off. She’s just becoming more and more polished.”

Pamplin’s score will give her consideration for all-American status. “That was pretty exciting for her,” Philips said.

Pamplin treated the meet as preparation for this weekend’s West Nationals competition in Riverside.

“Last Saturday was a really good practice meet for me,” she said. “It’s really good to do all the dives I will be doing in West Nationals.”

Pamplin, who won the CIF championship during her first two high school seasons, also speaks highly of high school competition.

“I love high school diving. It’s really fun to participate and meet all these new kids,” she said.
