A member of the USS Midway Museums Speaker’s Bureau, Herb Zoehrer, will be the guest speaker for the Escondido Republican Club’s (TERC) meeting on Monday, June 16. The Midway Museum is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year, and Zoehrer will be sharing the ‘inside story’ of that success and how the Midway Museum is becoming a San Diego community resource. He will also be sharing plans that lie ahead for the USS Midway Museum. The meeting will be held at the Cocina del Charro restaurant located at 890 West Valley Parkway in Escondido. Check-in starts at 11:30 a.m. with the buffet luncheon service beginning at 11:45 a.m., and the meeting starting promptly at noon and concluding at 1:00 p.m. A reservation is necessary. The cost is $14.00 per person. Valley Center Art Association (VCAA) will sponsor two guest art instructors this June to provide art instruction in pastels and in watercolor. The adult classes will be held in the Seminar Room at the Valley Center Library.  Classes are open to the public subject to space availability.  There is no cost to attend the classes and art supplies will be provided. Watercolorist Tom Tiedeman will instruct a watercolor class Thursday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The class will be limited to 15 students. Pastel artist Alicia Sotherland will teach a class in pastels Saturday, June 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This class is limited to 12 students.  Prior registration is required for both classes.  Contact Ed Labrado at (760) 751-4190 to register for the classes. All Escondido Public Library facilities will be closed to the public for the installation of a new library catalog software system on Wednesday, June 18. The closure will be for one day only. During the closure, library users can visit, to access eBooks, use online research tools, and view the calendar of events. Library users will be able to return materials to the Main Library during the closure, and fines will not be charged for items due on June 18.The Library will reopen for business as usual at 10 a.m.on Thursday, June 19.


Escondido Public Library’s Literacy and Lifelong Learning Division will present “How to Create a Successful Micro-Business”, in partnership with Helping Women Help Themselves (HWHT). This workshop will be held on Saturday, June 14, from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the Library’s Turrentine Room. The library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street in Escondido. The workshop is open to the public and will provide a basic overview of the key aspects of owning and operating a business. Participants will have access to HWHT’s ongoing business support and receive A Business Manual for Micro-Business.
