2/5 - You may see smoke: CAL FIRE will be conducting a prescribed burn to reduce dead and dying vegetation on Palomar Mountain near the Palomar Observatory beginning Monday February 8th 2010. Firefighters expect the 200 piles to be burned within 7 days. Burning will be conducted by CAL FIRE crews and will occur only Monday through Friday. SMOKE WILL BE VISIBLE FOR SEVERAL MILES DUE TO THE LOCATION OF THE PROJECT.

One reason Vista City Councilman Steve Gronke says he is running for Bill Horn’s fifth district supervisor’s seat is: “I don’t think he listens to his constituents.” He adds, “Bill Horn represents the kind of official that most of us cringe at.

Former Hidden Meadows resident, Caryl Krueger, authored 16 books

Former Roadrunner columnist Cliff Krueger used to describe Caryl Krueger as “friend-wife,” and during their long life together (they married in 1951) that friendship was one constant in their relationship.

Soles for souls - Mary Howard helped the Middle School's California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) collect scores of shoes for the “Soles 4 Souls” program sponsored by Sport Chalet. The shoes will be sent to Haiti to help earthquake survivors. Riley McCarrick and Sydney Park had the fun of delivering them to San Marcos on Sunday.

Planning group to take up immense Rancho Guejito development Monday

Possibly the largest development the Valley Center Planning Group will ever consider will be on Monday’s agenda: Rancho Guejito. The item will be one of the first ones discussed by the group at its Feb. 8 meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at VC Community Hall.

Annual Kiwanis dance to be held March 6

The VC Kiwanis Club will hold its annual Luck O’ the Irish Dinner Dance Saturday, March 6, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held in the St. Stephen’s Church Social Hall, 31020 Cole Grade Rd.
