Bicyclists will clog VC roads Sunday

Your drive may be complicated just a bit more on Sunday, October 22, when about 600 cyclists, part of the San Diego Granfondo and Challenged Athletes Foundation will ride from Kit Carson Park in Escondido to Palomar Mountain.

There will be riders on the road from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please use extra caution.

In the past, the riders have been accompanied by vehicles and traffic control activities from the Sheriff and other law enforcement.

This will undoubtedly create motorist challenges with Valley Center Road due to the continuing October pumkin festival events at Bates Nut Farm, plus the the road widening construction at the bottom of the hill in Escondido.

The Route will follow:

0 mi Exit Kit Carson Park heading North on Bear Valley Parkway

2.5 mi Turn right onto CA-78 E

2.6 mi Turn left onto S Citrus Ave

4.8 mi Turn right onto Bear Valley Pkwy

5.3 mi Turn right onto E Valley Pkwy

6.6 mi Turn right onto Lake Wohlford Rd [Start Climb]

14.4 mi Turn right onto Valley Center Rd

19.4 mi Turn right onto CA-76, Rest Stop on Right [Start Climb]

24.4 mi Slight left onto S Grade Rd/Palomar Mountain

31.1 mi Left turn to Rest Stop at Mother’s Kitchen, U-turn Go Straight onto E Grade Rd to head down Palomar

42.4 mi Turn left onto CA-76 E

44.9 mi Turn right onto Mesa Grande Rd

57.0 mi Turn left onto CA-79 N (signs for Warner Springs)

62.1 mi Turn left onto CA-76 W

84.3 mi Turn left onto Cole Grade Rd

92.2 mi Turn right onto Valley Center Rd

With many cycling events coming through our quaint “traffic challenged” community, please do an article on how these events are approved , by who(county dept.), what the positive impacts may be (if any), and to whom the fee’s flow to (follow the cash).
It would make many of us feel better to understand these issues while sit in traffic and dodge “chase vans” and bicycle gangs on our precious weekends. Thanks Roadrunner!
