Cemetery staff repairing water damage

One of the markers that was displaced due to the rains saturating the cemetery grounds. According to Supt. James LaBarre, the marker was originally installed without a concrete foundation, which meant that when the tractor drove over it and the grounds were soaked, it was dislodged.

Some damage to several cemetery markers that were reported by some community members as vandalism was actually the results of heavy rains on Friday that finally saturated the grounds, which was exacerbated by the tractor used to dig graves.

James LaBarre, who has been the superintendent at the cemetery for 14 years told The Roadrunner that after all the rains of the last two months that the cemetery finally reached the saturation point.

This combined with several recent burials, have been rough on the lawn. LaBarre and his assistant Nick Sears are now working to repair the damage to the lawn before the next rains hit. Until the water soaks in they will also keep the tractor off the grounds as well, said LaBarre.
