Maundy Thursday – Holy Thursday is the day before Good Friday. This is the day Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples, known as the Last Supper.

Good Friday is the Friday immediately preceding Easter Sunday. This is celebrated traditionally as the day Jesus was crucified and had died to demonstrate His love for us.

Holy Saturday is the day between Good Friday and Easter Sunday where Jesus remained in the tomb following His crucifixion.

Easter Vigil is the most beautiful liturgy in the Roman Catholic Church. Although celebrated on Holy Saturday evening, it is the dramatic liturgy that marks the beginning of Easter. It is at the Easter Vigil that we welcome adult new members to the faith in the Sacrament of Baptism and also administer the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.

Since our school district has respected our Christian Tradition, VCPUSD does not have school on Good Friday. Our youth will have the opportunity to observe this holy day by having a Good Friday Retreat Day for all high school youth from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

So our youth can receive Jesus before school, there will be a Mass at 6:45 a.m. and no 8:45 a.m. Mass on the first Wednesday of each month – April 1. ALL are always welcome!

St. Francis Episcopal Church

St. Francis Episcopal Church is a small but vibrant church in Pauma Valley. The church’s mission is to share the love of Christ.

The Episcopal Church welcomes all to celebrate and share Christ’s love for his people. The church is at 16608 Hwy. 76 near the Pauma Valley Community Center. All are invited to join in our Sunday morning worship service.

Holy Eucharist is celebrated at both our Sunday services. The 8 a.m. service is a quiet service without music. The 10 a.m. service offers congregational singing and a weekly musical offering by the St. Francis Choir. After the 10 a.m. service, there is food, coffee, and conversation for all. We are a small but welcoming church. Come check us out!

Light of the Valley Lutheran Church

Stay with Light of the Valley Lutheran Church and “feel” with Jesus. This is the time of God’s greatest gift to mankind — his Son! At 9 a.m. Palm Sunday, we are there to welcome Him. We greet Him with palm fronds, singing and Holy Communion.

On Holy Thursday, which is called Maundy Thursday, at 7 p.m., we reflect on the events surrounding the Last Supper with those first Disciples and Jesus. We hear His Love and instructions to us and share Communion together with Him.

On Good Friday, also at 7 p.m., we confront the horror with those who watched Him be crucified. His church goes black and we leave in silence.

On the Third Day, at 9 a.m. Easter Sunday, we come together to rejoice that the grave could not hold Him. He is there with us again and we are forgiven by God’s sacrifice which saves us forever. The cross becomes flowers. Our choir sings gladly, we sing together. We commune together. Our children search for eggs. We sit down to a potluck brunch.

Don’t miss our week together at Light of the Valley Lutheran Church, just a block up from Community Hall on Lilac. If you have questions, contact Pastor Matt Helfich at (760) 749-9733.
