County plans tree planting for parks

Jake Enriquez, the County Park and Recreation Department’s regional manager for North County tells The Roadrunner that the department will soon begin a program of planting new trees at the five VC parks the County acquired earlier this year.
On Wednesday Enriquez said, “This morning we did a walk around with our tree planting team. Planting locations and species were identified.”
The first phase in VC will look like this: “We are first targeting the most visited parks: VC Community Park, Adams Park and Cole Grade Park. Species will include, but are not limited to; Peppermint Tree, Australian Willow, Deodar Cedar, Live Oak, and Crape Myrtle.”
He added, “We are double checking species availability, which will determine our final quantities, but we are looking to get 20 trees in the ground by January. Winter is the best time to plant large trees.”
