Darcy A. Hahlbohm, of Valley Center, California, passed away on September 24, 2022. Darcy was the fifth of six children. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Dorothy and William Hahlbohm.
Darcy was a beautiful, compassionate soul, kind, caring and interested in everyone. Her sense of humor always left a laugh in your heart.
Darcy spent the first few years of her life on the east coast and moved to Southern California when she was 14. She graduated from Vista High school in 1967. A short time later she moved to Northern California for about 10 years then returned to Northern San Diego County where she lived for the rest of her life.
While in the Bay area Darcy went on to study nursing at San Mateo College. After receiving her degree in nursing, she started her first job working as an RN at Kaiser Hospital in Northern California. She worked for Kaiser Permanente for 33 years in various nursing roles including: ICU, Pediatrics, Endoscopy, various clinics, and doing triage nursing.
Darcy was a hiker, backpacker and volunteer for the Sierra club. She served as Chairperson for the Sierra Club’s Basic Mountaineering course as well as a teacher and a Chapter Outings Leader.
Darcy also volunteered with the San Diego Mountain Rescue Team providing search and rescue for persons lost, injured, and stranded in the mountains, deserts and wilderness areas of San Diego County.
Darcy lived her life with passion and compassion. She was kind, loving, a good listener, and she had a great sense of humor. She loved making people laugh with her unexpected quips.
Darcy was strong in her Faith, and she loved her church. She loved singing in the choir and being a part of the prayer groups and Bible study groups at Valley Center Community Church.
Darcy retired in 2020 and spent her time reading, quilting and loving her family and pets.
Darcy is survived by her five siblings: Carol (George), Barbara (Lou), Bill, Dewey (Carol), and Dan (Janice). She is also survived by a dozen nieces and nephews who she loved dearly, cousins, and by several grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Valley Center Community Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct 7, 2022, with a reception and Celebration of Life immediately after.
In lieu of flowers Darcy would request donations to the Valley Center Community Church, Sierra Club, KPBS San Diego, or the World Wildlife Federation.
