The Valley Center Library celebrated the 3rd annual Valley Center Bee & Butterfly Festival Saturday afternoon.

The day began with a blessing by the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians, followed by the Valley Center Seed Library Launch. Local resident Jamie Zeller sang the National Anthem.

Booths were manned by local organizations and there were informational and green activities such as the “plant a pizza garden.” There was also free produce and food.

Youngsters were encouraged to play a bingo-like activity called Pollinator Passport. As they progressed around the library they collected stamps/stickers at each table and they were able to collect free items while having fun with activities. When they collected all their stamps they were able to get their own Sunflower Discovery and Grow Kit.

Sponsors included the Friends of the Valley Center Library, Valley Center Art Assn., the Valley Roadrunner, Cosmic Solar, Valley Center Fire Protection District, Kiwanis, Grangetto’s and Friends of Hellhole Canyon, among others.

Dozens of youngsters tried on the Battalion Chief hat on for size.
