After being largely absent in February the El Niño rains returned to San Diego County on Sunday, with a lot of moisture falling Monday and Monday night.

Valley Center Fire Chief Joe Napier reported that sandbag production at Fire Station 2 on N. Lake Wohlford Road, “has slowed a bit over the last few days. Not much traffic yesterday before or during the rain. Hopefully this means our community took advantage of the great weather to set sand bags before the storms.”

The weekend’s storm dropped up to five feet of snow in Northern California and lesser amounts to our local mountains. Snow fell on the Pala Reservation down as low as 3,200 feet Monday. Palomar Mountain had significant snowfall, as you can see from the photo. The county Department of Public Works reported 4 inches as low as 4,000 feet. All roads on the mountain were open Tuesday, but chains were required.

Pala’s storm total was .86 hundredths of an inch. Fallbrook and Rainbow had 1.1 inches. Oceanside and Couser Canyon, 1.2. Valley Center had 1.28. Rincon, 1.34. One inch in Pauma Valley. Parts of La Jolla Reservation had almost two inches. More rainfall is expected this weekend— Information on rainfall courtesy of Pala Today, Rez Radio.
