Valley Center, San Pasqual fire departments get communication upgrades




Mobile data computers and automated vehicle locators are on their way to two Valley Center and a San Pasqual Reservation fire stations.

The upgraded communications equipment comes courtesy of a $110,000 grant from the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation that went to 10 rural fire departments across San Diego County’s back country.

The new mobile data equipment should assist dispatchers in their quest to track fire trucks in difficult terrain allowing emergency personnel closest to the blaze, regardless of agency, to respond fastest.

New mobile data computers on fire engines show crews emergency area maps, pre-fire plans and access to medical information to treat victims along with specialized information about hazardous chemicals or other unseals materials.

The vehicle locators will aid fire commanders managing fires by letting them locate all fire fighting units simultaneously. That will let commander more firefighter rapidly in resounding to fast-moving flames. they ale will help firefighters stay safe by avoiding fire shifting in fast winds.

Aside from Valley Center and San Pasqual, new equipment goes to three Deer Springs stations, three in Ramona and one at Mount Laguna. San Diego Gas & Electric kicked in $100,000 to the foundation for the equipment, which was coupled with a $25,000 Grossmont Healthcare district grant sent to Deer Springs.

Since its 1989 founding, the nonprofit Regional Fire Foundation has doled out $4.3 million in first responder equipment and training grants.
