VC music programs earn top awards at spring competitions


The Valley Center High School Concert Band competed in Poway last week to earn the top award of Unanimous Superior.

Valley Center music programs have garnered top awards repeatedly recently for spring competitions. 

Last Thursday, the Valley Center Middle School and High Schools both earned the top award, Unanimous Superior, at the Poway Concert Band competition. The bands repeated this top award after earning the same, highest level at the Temecula Concert Band Competition in March. 

Meanwhile, the Valley Center High School Jazz Choir and Women’s Choir were on the road at the Mira Costa College Jazz Festival, where they were highlighted performers of the event.

The Valley Center High School Jazz Band won 1st place and Middle School Jazz Band earned 2nd place in the rigorous Esperanza jazz competition in March in the Los Angeles area. The VCHS Jazz Band went on to be recognized with the top award at the Bonita Jazz Festival in San Dimas. 

You can catch the VCHS and VCMS jazz bands on Saturday, May 4 at the Coronado Jazz Festival at Coronado High School; at MusicFest at Bates Nut Farm, on June 1; the VCMS bands at the final Middle School concert on Wednesday, May 15 in the MPR, and the VCHS bands at the final High School Concert on Monday, June 3 at the Maxine Theater.  More information can be found on Facebook Valley Center/Pauma Music Boosters.

The Valley Center High School Jazz Jags walked away top rated from the Bonita Jazz Festival in San Dimas, in March.

The Valley Center High School Jazz Choir, “Resonate,” was featured at the Mira Costa Jazz Festival.
