VC Stampede Rodeo contracts with National Police Rodeo Association

On Memorial Day weekend, the Valley Center Stampede Rodeo will again bring the Wild West contests between the American Cowboy and untamed horses and cattle to Valley Center. Cowboys in the early West had to be highly skilled at roping and riding. As their skills grew stronger, so did their competitive sprits. Wild West shows, like those by legendary Buffalo Bill, set the stage for the early frontiersman turned athlete. Following the American Civil War, friendly competitions over who was the best at performing everyday ranching tasks, including who could ride the wildest horses or rope the quickest calves, eventually evolved into the modern day sport of professional rodeo.

The Valley Center Stampede Rodeo has once again contracted with the National Police Rodeo Association (NPRA) for most of the scheduled competitions.

“The ongoing association with Valley Center is one that the NPRA has enjoyed for many years and is our premiere performance rodeo,” said Stan Ware, NPRA Arena Director. “This year, as always, contestants from the NPRA will be competing along with local rodeo contestants from the Valley Center area for cash monies and awards.”

However, this year the NPRA board of directors made an exciting change to the association. Along with regular NPRA members, the association will be allowing anyone who wants to compete in association events (that would not qualify under police, fire or military guidelines) to participate as associate members. Therefore, anyone interested in competing in the five to seven events sponsored by the NPRA can compete as an associate member.

The events include tie-down roping, team roping, barrel racing and other rodeo events. Associate members will compete with regular members for monies and awards at all events. Visit the NPRA website at www.gonationalpolicerodeo.org for details on how to join and enter all events.
