After 8 months of fundraising, the Valley Center High School Baseball team achieved their goal of raising $25,000 and traveled to Maui, Hawaii from February 21 — 25 to participate in a high school baseball tournament held at Iron Maehara Stadium in Kahului.

Although the team won one game and lost two, the experience of this trip will be unforgettable to these boys.  Besides playing in three hard-fought games, the team was able to enjoy a snorkeling boat trip, swim with turtles, hike to waterfalls, hang out at the beach, and eat at local Hawaiian food trucks. According to head coach Bill Dunckel, “The boys had such a great experience that they didn’t want to come home!”

The team wishes to give heartfelt thanks to the members of the community who supported their fundraising efforts that made this once in a lifetime high school trip possible.  They would also like to give special thanks to Valley Center Oil, Bates Nut Farm, and A-1 Irrigation for their generous support of VCHS Baseball.  The coaches and team encourage the community to continue to support VCHS baseball by attending a game.  The regular baseball season has just commenced, and the high school sports schedule can be found on the Valley Center High School website.
