Vons supermarket and gas station coming to Liberty Bell Plaza

As we reported in our September 14 issue of the Valley Roadrunner (Planning group hears about two pending commercial developments), Albertsons (parent company to Vons) decided Liberty Bell Plaza was a good location for a smaller Vons supermarket and gas station. This would be similar to what is located at the southeast corner of Felicita Ave. and South Centre City Pkwy. in Escondido. Bell Plaza plans to offer approximately 82,000 sq ft of retail space.
Liberty Bell Plaza is located in the South Village on Valley Center Road at Mirar de Valle.
The community is invited to attend a free Lunch & Learn on Friday, October 27 from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the Valley Center Community Hall.  Space is limited so please reserve your seat by calling the VC Chamber of Commerce at 760-749-8472.
 Press Release:

Bell Holdings is pleased to announce that they are proceeding with development of Liberty Bell Plaza, an approximate 82,000 square foot neighborhood retail center to be located in the Valley Center South Village at Valley Center Road and Mirar de Valle. The Southern California supermarket, Vons, has committed to the site and will be the featured full-service grocery market at Liberty Bell Plaza.

For many years, Bell Holdings has anticipated developing a neighborhood shopping center to meet the needs of the Valley Center community. Steve Flynn and Kathleen Bell Flynn, of Bell Holdings, have taken their commitment to the Valley Center residents seriously by significant community involvement and contribution over the last thirty years. Bell Holdings will continue to meet with the public and community groups throughout the development process, as they have done previously with other developments, to gather input and incorporate suggestions from the community.

For many years, members of the Valley Center community have expressed their desire for a full-service market. Founded in 1906, Vons is a premier Southern California full-service market that is a subsidiary of Albertson’s. A Von’s grocery market has a variety of offerings including bakery, dairy, deli, frozen foods, general grocery, meat, pharmacy, produce, seafood, snacks, floral and coffee. Vons is an active community partner. They are a significant sponsor of the San Diego County Fair and continually donate to a variety of local charities through the Vons Foundation, including schools and food banks.

Bell Holdings anticipates breaking ground on Liberty Bell Plaza in 2019.

Please add a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf there, too! And a Tender Greens restaurant. Would love to see some healthy options, here in Valley Center.

yes..a healthy alternative here in VCtr. The ones we have now are grease pits and not decent. Even something like Farmer Boys as in Escondido. So excited to get a Vons also. Need a bakery unless Vons will have one. Another coffee/tea shop to go inside and sit would be awesome. Might stay another 10 yrs now.

Plus a taco stand and a Macdonalds

Originally I was told that they would not allow fast food places here, to protect the “character” of the town. Do you feel that a McDonalds in a positive thing or are you joking with that suggestion? A taco shop, if its a good quality one would be nice and a lot of us would become regulars. I think if you have kids ,a McDonalds is kind of an American cultural activity but its not a healthy option yet.

I hope we hold high standards for this vons being the one on valley pkwy. Is horrible and dirty!
A Trader Joe’s would still be wonderful for our town if we are going to add on things. Gas stations not needed but perhaps somebody to buy out and put in some excellent restaurants that we need unlike the ones we have. No extra building but get rid of and redo the ones we have. Fat ivors not included being there are a classic, friendly and keep the character in the town. But the corner skillet and papa bears need a whole lot of love just starting with their customer service.

Having a coffee stand (Starbucks, etc.) inside the Vons would be great. I’m also hoping for a step up in dining choices. Time for the current restaurants to step up or lose what little business they have.

I hope there will be options for small markets to sell locally grown produce. Delfino’s is great, we need more places like this to get fresh produce and please, organic produce. Very hard to get here and we have local organic farmers. Thanks for working with the community. We do need a gas station, it doesn’t hurt to have some redundancy on this resource since there will be more residents moving into the new developments that are being approved.

  6. Ah, yes. 25 years ago there was one stoplight in town. Then the Casinos, road widening,
now Vons, McDonald’s ?, et. al. Still country living, but with progress (?) Inevitable (of course).

Yeahhhhhhhhhh finally – yes my prayers have been answered !!!!! I agree a Trader Joes would be awesome too and more restaurants too. I agree that Papa Bears and Corner Skillet should be leveled and replaced – Vons has great prices on gas 🙂 I would also like a Target but I know that would be hard to fit in with our country theme – love the new changes coming to Valley Center 🙂 Happy resident HERE 🙂

So happy – a Vons!!!! Hopefully they will have a fabulous vegetable department. What we really need to complete our Valley Center experience is a fine dining restaurant.. A farm to table Italian faire establishment would be our preference. We are so disappointed with the unhealthy choices available!!! All of this gorgeous produce around, and no one serving it! Two great restaurants would be even better! We do not need another gas station or a gross fast food place. Valley Center and Pauma Valley residents are sophisticated, well traveled, and deserve better. We will appreciate
    anything more upscale.

  9. Bob Bullock says:

So we are becoming a center filled with big time business. That takes our culture away – the Valley is looking junky with all the side by side business development locations. Charm, character, class of yesteryears is going away. Real sad day when we get a stinking McDonalds and what’s wrong with our local fuel station where you get your windshield washed and wiper blades replaced. And the Deli, its a great place to meet and the food is outstanding and it’s “hometown” friendly. This is not progress, it’s Dysfunctional Development.
