The winnerswon prizes of ice cream sundaes from VC Country Junction Deli.The community hall at St. Stephen’s parish Thursday night looked like the boat had just landed in Dublin with a sea of folks dressed in forty shades of green as they came to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and taste the 21 different stews offered by local cooks in the community.

The winners of the contest included; Best Individual stew, The Real Irish Men (Judge Don McBeath and Michael Murphy) Best Business; Portino’s Pizza (Frank McCarron) and Serendipity Hair and Nail Salon (Jeanna O’ Slattery), Best Service Club; VC Kiwanis (Judge Gina O’ Roberts) and the VC Wellness Spa (Jana O’ Limon) won for Best Table Decorations. The VC Optimists won again this year for the best bribe of the evening with a basket full of fabulous items.

Irish Stew committee members; Tony O’ Blazej representing the Knights of Columbus and Bobbie O’ Weiss from the VC Women’s Club and Kathleen McKewan, organizer and founder told The Roadrunner they were very pleased to with the community support and how the event has grown bigger and better each year. The funds raised from the event are used for local high school scholarships.

Entertainment for the evening included Jeff Beck’s high school and middle school jazz members and the Donna Means Irish Step Dancers from San Marcos and Valley Center.
